df247968f2 Move ast::Item::ident into ast::ItemKind.
`ast::Item` has an `ident` field.

- It's always non-empty for these item kinds: `ExternCrate`, `Static`,
  `Const`, `Fn`, `Mod`, `TyAlias`, `Enum`, `Struct`, `Union`,
  `Trait`, `TraitAlias`, `MacroDef`, `Delegation`.

- It's always empty for these item kinds: `Use`, `ForeignMod`,
  `GlobalAsm`, `Impl`, `MacCall`, `DelegationMac`.

There is a similar story for `AssocItemKind` and `ForeignItemKind`.

Some sites that handle items check for an empty ident, some don't. This
is a very C-like way of doing things, but this is Rust, we have sum
types, we can do this properly and never forget to check for the
exceptional case and never YOLO possibly empty identifiers (or possibly
dummy spans) around and hope that things will work out.

The commit is large but it's mostly obvious plumbing work. Some notable
things.

- `ast::Item` got 8 bytes bigger. This could be avoided by boxing the
fields within some of the `ast::ItemKind` variants (specifically:
  `Struct`, `Union`, `Enum`). I might do that in a follow-up; this
  commit is big enough already.

- For the visitors: `FnKind` no longer needs an `ident` field because
the `Fn` within how has one.

- In the parser, the `ItemInfo` typedef is no longer needed. It was used
in various places to return an `Ident` alongside an `ItemKind`, but
now the `Ident` (if present) is within the `ItemKind`.

- In a few places I renamed identifier variables called `name` (or
`foo_name`) as `ident` (or `foo_ident`), to better match the type, and
because `name` is normally used for `Symbol`s. It's confusing to see
  something like `foo_name.name`.

Rollup merge of #138929 - oli-obk:assoc-ctxt-of-trait, r=compiler-errors
Visitors track whether an assoc item is in a trait impl or an inherent impl

`AssocCtxt::Impl` now contains an `of_trait` field. This allows ast lowering and nameres to not have to track whether we're in a trait impl or an inherent impl.

2620eb42d7 Re-export more rustc_span::symbol things from rustc_span.
`rustc_span::symbol` defines some things that are re-exported from
`rustc_span`, such as `Symbol` and `sym`. But it doesn't re-export some
closely related things such as `Ident` and `kw`. So you can do `use
rustc_span::{Symbol, sym}` but you have to do `use
rustc_span::symbol::{Ident, kw}`, which is inconsistent for no good
reason.

This commit re-exports `Ident`, `kw`, and `MacroRulesNormalizedIdent`,
and changes many `rustc_span::symbol::` qualifiers in `compiler/` to
`rustc_span::`. This is a 200+ net line of code reduction, mostly
because many files with two `use rustc_span` items can be reduced to
one.

69fb612608 Keep track of parse errors in mods and don't emit resolve errors for paths involving them
When we expand a `mod foo;` and parse `foo.rs`, we now track whether that file had an unrecovered parse error that reached the end of the file. If so, we keep that information around. When resolving a path like `foo::bar`, we do not emit any errors for "`bar` not found in `foo`", as we know that the parse error might have caused `bar` to not be parsed and accounted for.

When this happens in an existing project, every path referencing `foo` would be an irrelevant compile error. Instead, we now skip emitting anything until `foo.rs` is fixed. Tellingly enough, we didn't have any test for errors caused by `mod` expansion.

Fix #97734.

f4966590d8 Auto merge of #131045 - compiler-errors:remove-unnamed_fields, r=wesleywiser
Retire the `unnamed_fields` feature for now

`#![feature(unnamed_fields)]` was implemented in part in #115131 and #115367, however work on that feature has (afaict) stalled and in the mean time there have been some concerns raised (e.g.[^1][^2]) about whether `unnamed_fields` is worthwhile to have in the language, especially in its current desugaring. Because it represents a compiler implementation burden including a new kind of anonymous ADT and additional complication to field selection, and is quite prone to bugs today, I'm choosing to remove the feature.

However, since I'm not one to really write a bunch of words, I'm specifically *not* going to de-RFC this feature. This PR essentially *rolls back* the state of this feature to "RFC accepted but not yet implemented"; however if anyone wants to formally unapprove the RFC from the t-lang side, then please be my guest. I'm just not totally willing to summarize the various language-facing reasons for why this feature is or is not worthwhile, since I'm coming from the compiler side mostly.

d4fc76cbf3 Introduce 'ra lifetime name.
`rustc_resolve` allocates many things in `ResolverArenas`. The lifetime
used for references into the arena is mostly `'a`, and sometimes `'b`.

This commit changes it to `'ra`, which is much more descriptive. The
commit also changes the order of lifetimes on a couple of structs so
that '`ra` is second last, before `'tcx`, and does other minor
renamings such as `'r` to `'a`.

Use `bool` in favor of `Option<()>` for diagnostics

We originally only supported `Option<()>` for optional notes/labels, but we now support `bool`. Let's use that, since it usually leads to more readable code.

I'm not removing the support from the derive macro, though I guess we could error on it... 🤔

Remove braces when fixing a nested use tree into a single item

[Back in 2019](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/56645) I added rustfix support for the `unused_imports` lint, to automatically remove them when running `cargo fix`. For the most part this worked great, but when removing all but one childs of a nested use tree it turned `use foo::{Unused, Used}` into `use foo::{Used}`. This is slightly annoying, because it then requires you to run `rustfmt` to get `use foo::Used`.

This PR automatically removes braces and the surrouding whitespace when all but one child of a nested use tree are unused. To get it done I had to add the span of the nested use tree to the AST, and refactor a bit the code I wrote back then.

A thing I noticed is, there doesn't seem to be any `//@ run-rustfix` test for fixing the `unused_imports` lint. I created a test in `tests/suggestions` (is that the right directory?) that for now tests just what I added in the PR. I can followup in a separate PR to add more tests for fixing `unused_lints`.

This PR is best reviewed commit-by-commit.

0c0833d750 resolve: Remove two cases of misleading macro call visiting
Macro calls are ephemeral, they should not add anything to the definition tree, even if their AST could contains something with identity.
Thankfully, macro call AST cannot contain anything like that, so these walks are just noops.
In majority of other places in def_collector / build_reduced_graph they are already not visited.

(Also, a minor match reformatting is included.)
